HOPE House recruits community champion The Hope House Board of Directors has announced that it will move forward
with the local charity's first capital campaign

The $2 million fundraising goal will facilitate the purchase of the former Norfolk United Church, the building the charity currently operates out of, as well as cover much-needed renovations and ongoing maintenance costs.

Leading the campaign as volunteer Chair is Marissa Teeter, a long-time Hope House supporter who is well-known in the Guelph community for her philanthropy and business leadership. Marissa is the past-Chair and three-time honoree of the YMCA-YWCA’s Women of Distinction, an advisor to the Givesome Foundation and a recipient of the Guelph Mayor’s Award to name a few. Professionally, Teeter is Senior Vice President, Financial Services with IG Wealth Management.

“I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to do some amazing work with my community to ensure we all have a place to call home at Hope House,” says Teeter.

Hope House provides immediate relief services such as a food and clothing market, support programs and a welcoming daytime space for community members in need of assistance. The charity strives to challenge the stigmas surrounding poverty and allow community members who need their support to maintain their dignity and choice while providing them with tangible skills developed in a community environment that helps them move towards their personal goals.

The campaign is in its early stages as staff and the Board begin to shape a plan and recruit supporters. More community leaders will join the campaign team in the coming weeks and Teeter says she remains confident that “the people of this amazing city will come together and join me to support such a big cause”.

“Marissa has volunteered many times at Hope House so we knew she is a perfect fit and are so excited to have her by our side as this important campaign kicks off. Her leadership and charitable experience will be an asset to the committee and we look forward to watching her ideas come to life,” says Jaya James, executive director at Hope House.

“HOPE House is very close to my heart, a place that supports our neighbours and our co-workers, people we see every day that are quietly struggling and in need of our support. We can make their journey a little easier and I’m happy to play a small role in that.”
